The one-way route worth doing

Auckland → Queenstown is one of the most rewarding one-way road trips in NZ. Pick up at our Auckland depot, drop with a partner depot in Queenstown (or return via Christchurch and fly a domestic hop).

Day 1 — Auckland → Rotorua (3 hrs)

Hobbiton en route. Waiotapu geothermal in the afternoon.

Day 2 — Rotorua → National Park (2 hrs)

Prep for tomorrow's crossing.

Day 3 — Tongariro Alpine Crossing

19.4 km one-way. Shuttle back to your car.

Day 4 — National Park → Wellington (4 hrs)

Cuba St and Te Papa.

Day 5 — Ferry + Kaikoura (2.5 hrs)

Cook Strait crossing.

Day 6 — Kaikoura → Christchurch → Tekapo (5 hrs)
