What's included in your Nomado rental, what the excess is, and how to reduce it. No fine print.
Insurance is where most NZ rental companies hide their real prices. We don't. Basic insurance is included in every Nomado rental — the only optional upgrade is premium insurance, which drops the excess from $3,000 to $500.
Basic insurance covers third-party liability (damage to other vehicles, property and people) and damage to the rental vehicle itself, subject to a $3,000 excess. It's included in the price you see — there's no daily add-on charge for it.
If you'd rather have lower out-of-pocket risk, you can upgrade to premium insurance at booking for a flat daily fee. That drops your maximum liability for covered damage from $3,000 to $500. Most travellers add it for the peace of mind.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Off-road driving outside of recognised public roads. Single-vehicle damage on certain restricted roads (Skippers Canyon, Ball Hut Road, beach driving). Water damage from driving through fords or flooded roads. Damage caused by misuse or negligence.
If you're in an incident, call our 24/7 number first — we'll talk you through it. For anything more than a scrape, also call NZ Police (111 emergency, 105 non-emergency). Photograph the scene, exchange details with anyone involved, and don't admit fault on the spot.
