When you need to carry more people or more gear, this is the car. The 7 seater Outlander adds two extra seats, all-wheel drive and factory roof racks, making it the most capable car in our NZ fleet. Available from Auckland and Christchurch from $59/day, all-inclusive.
Most of NZ's most scenic destinations involve gravel access roads or snow-affected alpine routes — Mt Hutt, Cardrona, the Catlins, Castle Hill. 4WD turns these from white-knuckle to relaxed.
Factory roof racks take ski/snowboard carriers, surfboards or extra luggage boxes. Seven seats convert flat for camping gear. Three large bags fit in the boot with all 7 seats in use.
Christchurch to Queenstown via Mt Cook. The Milford Sound run. The West Coast glaciers. Around 10L/100km — heavier than the smaller cars, but every passenger and pack adds up to better value per person.

Some ski-field access roads require chains regardless of vehicle type. We rent chains as an optional extra. 4WD lets you handle most NZ winter conditions outside the chain-mandatory zones.
