North Island
Pick up in Auckland and unlock the North Island. From the Bay of Islands to Wellington, from $29/day with everything included.
The North Island packs an extraordinary amount into a small space — geothermal wonders, volcanic peaks, golden beaches, wine country, cultural sites and the country's biggest city. A rental car is by far the best way to see it. Nomado's Auckland depots make starting your North Island road trip refreshingly simple.
We operate from two Auckland depots — Beachlands in the east and Clevedon in the south (closest to Auckland Airport, with a free shuttle from the terminal). Whichever you choose, you'll be on the road quickly. Same prices, same all-inclusive package.
Auckland to Bay of Islands (3.5 hrs) — beaches, dolphins, history. Auckland to Coromandel (2 hrs) — Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach. Auckland to Rotorua (3 hrs) — geysers, hot springs, Hobbiton on the way. Rotorua to Taupo & Tongariro (2 hrs) — alpine crossing, ski fields, Lake Taupo. Taupo to Wellington (5 hrs) — Wairarapa wineries, national museum, ferries to the South Island.
5 days: Auckland → Coromandel → Rotorua → back. 7 days: Auckland → Bay of Islands → Coromandel → Rotorua → Taupo → back. 10–12 days: full island loop including Wellington and New Plymouth. 14+ days: combine with a South Island leg using our one-way rental.
Solo or couple on a budget: Mazda Demio. Couples wanting more space: Nissan Note. Family of 4 with luggage or longer trip: Outlander SUV. Bigger groups or ski season: 7 seater Outlander 4WD.
