It's the Goldilocks car — bigger than a Demio, smaller and more fuel-efficient than an SUV. The 2014–2016 models offer modern safety features, auto transmission and a deceptively roomy interior thanks to the tall hatchback shape.
Five seats, two large bags in the boot, and comfortable enough for the longer hauls — Auckland to Wellington, Christchurch to Queenstown, the West Coast. Around 8L/100km on the open road.

Absolutely. The Note has plenty of grunt for state highways and alpine passes like Arthur's Pass and the Lindis. In winter we'd recommend the Outlander 4WD for any snow-affected route.
The Note is cheaper to rent and run, but the Outlander has more space, a higher driving position, and 4WD option (on the 7 seater). For 3+ adults with luggage, the Outlander is the better pick.
