Rental car pricing in New Zealand is famously all-over-the-place — the same car can be $29 or $129 depending on who you book with and what's actually included. Here's the honest breakdown.
Budget car: from $29/day. Economy: from $39/day. Mid-size SUV: from $49/day. 7-seater SUV: from $69/day. All prices include standard insurance, unlimited kilometres, unlimited approved drivers, GST, normal toll road charges and mechanical roadside assistance. Driver-caused call-outs are charged separately.
Before choosing any rental, compare what the quoted total includes: insurance excess, approved drivers, kilometre limits, optional cover, equipment and collection arrangements can all affect the final price. Nomado shows applicable optional and service charges before booking or in the Rental Agreement.
December–February (peak summer) is 20–30% more expensive across the whole industry. May–September (winter, outside ski regions) is the cheapest window. Book 4+ weeks ahead in summer to lock in the best rate.
