Rental car pricing in New Zealand is famously all-over-the-place — the same car can be $29 or $129 depending on who you book with and what's actually included. Here's the honest breakdown.
Budget car: from $29/day. Economy: from $39/day. Mid-size SUV: from $49/day. 7-seater SUV: from $69/day. All prices include insurance, unlimited kms, unlimited additional drivers, GST and 24/7 roadside.
The Kayak/Booking headline rate usually excludes insurance (often $25/day extra), reduces the excess only if you pay extra, charges per additional driver, and adds a young driver fee. A $19/day teaser can easily be $80/day at pickup. Nomado's all-in price is the price.
December–February (peak summer) is 20–30% more expensive across the whole industry. May–September (winter, outside ski regions) is the cheapest window. Book 4+ weeks ahead in summer to lock in the best rate.
